Carmen Reyes, a beloved matriarch, was born on December 21, 1942, in Rosario Durango, Mexico. She passed peacefully at her home on August 20, 2025, surrounded by her cherished family. Carmen's life was a testament to love and resilience, as she made the brave journey to America to begin a new chapter for her family.
Carmen was known for her kind and generous spirit, always caring for those around her. She was a great person who loved to host her family at Buffalo Lake, creating countless joyful memories filled with laughter during cookouts. A lover of music, Carmen found joy in planting flowers and trees, and took great care in nurturing her beloved chihuahuas and birds. She had a special bond with her great grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, and treasured moments shared with her daughter when she would paint her nails and comb her hair.
Carmen is survived by her siblings, Elena Nations and husband Dwight, Eulalio Reyes and wife Basilisa, Alicia Cottrill, Bertha Castellano, and former sister-in-law Emma Gonzales. She is also survived by her son, Mario Hernandez and wife Norma, daughter Carmen Torrez, and former daughter-in-law Betty Solis and partner Isaac. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Anthony, Crystal and husband Joey, Lupe and wife Amanda, Naomi and wife Jenny, Robert, Sergio, Armando and wife Azriel, Briza and husband DeShawn, Adriana and husband Zakk, and Jacob, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jowaylon, Anthony (LA), Mia, Rilee, Elisandro, Margaret, and Blaize.
Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, Eulalio and Fermina Reyes; her sister, Adela Forston and husband George; her brothers, Jose Reyes and wife Fidencia, and Anastacio Reyes; her brothers-in-law, Don Cottrill and Johnny Castellano; her son-in-law, Ron Torrez; and her long-time partner, Domingo Galindo.
Carmen Reyes will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her love for family, and the joyous moments she shared with everyone in her life. Her legacy of love will continue to shine through the lives she touched.
Visitation will be held on August 26, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Guajardo Funeral Chapels, located at 407 N University Ave, Lubbock, TX 79415. A Rosary will take place that same evening at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be conducted on August 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady Grace Catholic Church, located at 3111 Erskine Street, Lubbock, TX 79415.
