On Monday, April 30, 2018, Benito “Ben” Ybañez, Jr. 74 of Lubbock, Texas went home to join his daughter in heaven and to play a round of golf with his buddies.Ben was born July 15, 1943 in Bryan, Texas to Benito Sr. and Victoria Ybañez. On January 9, 1965, Ben married the love of his life, Jane Gonzalez. They were blessed with a son, Stephen and daughter, Cynthia. He was a God-fearing, hardworking, generous man whose passion was golfing with lifetime friends, PAGA partners, and granddaughter Kandise Ybañez and nephew Tony Vierra. Ben was a member and officer of PAGA and an active member of LULAC for many years. He was awarded the Adelante Award which showcases and honors Hispanic men in the Lubbock community who excel in their careers and volunteer efforts.He is survived by his wife Jane, son Stephen, granddaughters; Kandise Ybañez, Amber Perez, and Victoria Ybañez, a great grandson, Adam Perez, four sisters, one brother and a host of family and friends. He is preceded by his daughter, Cynthia and his parents.Ben’s final farewell, “I’ll be in heaven on the #1 tee box playing a round of golf.”Funeral under the direction of Guajardo Funeral Chapel; visitation, May 3, 4:00 pm, Rosary, May 4, 7:00 pm, Mass, May 5, 10:00 am at St John the Baptist Catholic Church with interment at Resthaven.In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church building fund.
