Belia Cano Perez, a beloved matriarch and devoted follower of Christ, passed away on June 17, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 90. Born on August 17, 1934, in Harlingen, she touched the lives of many through her unwavering faith, dedication to family, and loving spirit.
Throughout her life, Belia worked at Texas Tech, where she dedicated herself to her career and built lasting connections with her colleagues. However, her most profound role was that of a prayer warrior for her family, a true testament to her devotion to God and her loved ones. Her heart was filled with love as she nurtured her family, encompassing their joys, struggles, and triumphs in her prayers.
Belia was a devoted servant of the Lord from the age of 19, holding onto His words throughout her life, which greatly influenced her personality. Her faith was her foundation, and she shared it freely with everyone around her. She enjoyed reading the Word and listening to gospel music, with a special fondness for Crystal River, which will hold a memorial tribute in her honor.
She is survived by her daughters, Tina (Ted) Clayton and Jessica Perez, and her sons, Jaime (Elvia) Perez and Raul (Margaret) Perez. Belia leaves behind a remarkable legacy embodied by her 16 grandchildren, over 40 great-grandchildren, and more than 20 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by her love and faith.
Belia was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Perez, and children Manuel (Rita) Perez Jr., Richard Perez, Ishmael Perez, and Belinda (Larry) Garcia. Their memories live on through the values she instilled in her family and the countless lives she touched during her time on Earth.
Visitation will take place on June 20, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Guajardo Funeral Chapels, located at 407 N University Ave, Lubbock, TX. The funeral service will follow on June 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Ministerios Nueva Vida, located at 201 N Boston, Lubbock, TX. Belia will be laid to rest at City of Lubbock Cemetery following the service.
As we gather to celebrate her life, may we remember Belia Cano Perez not only for her devotion to her faith and family but also for the gentle strength she brought to each of us. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us as we cherish the memories of her beautiful life.
