It is with both sadness and celebration that we announce the passing of Angelita Gutierrez, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who entered into eternal rest on March 29, 2025, at the age of 101. Born on April 9, 1923, in Matchuala, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, to Martin and Paulina (Herrera) Sandoval. Angelita lived a life full of love, laughter, and remarkable resilience, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy.
In 1947, Angelita married the love of her life, Pedro P. Gutierrez, in Seguin, Texas. Together, they built a beautiful family and a warm household filled with cherished memories. Angelita dedicated herself to caring for her family, working diligently in the cafeteria at Lubbock Independent School District, where she nourished countless children with her kindness and culinary skills, and at the Furr’s warehouse.
A devoted member of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Angelita's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was an active participant in her community and a source of inspiration for her loved ones. Angelita took immense joy in sewing, knitting, and indulging in her favorite soap operas, the engagement of which brought her much happiness.
Angelita leaves behind her son, Henry (Maria) Gutierrez, and a remarkable lineage that includes six grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 29 great-great-grandchildren. Her family was the pride of her life, and she relished every moment spent with them, nurturing and guiding them with her unwavering love. In addition, she is survived by her dear nieces, Cecilia Rangel, Adela Paez, and Suzy Salas, who played a special role in her life.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband Pedro, her beloved companion Diapoldo Mendoza, her son Estevan Gutierrez, and her siblings: Miguel, Natividad, Rosa, Jesusa, Augustin, her twin sister Maria de la Luz, Antonio and Pedro.
Angelita's zest for life and unwavering spirit will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her presence brought warmth to every gathering, and her laughter echoed in the hearts of her family.
Visitation will be held from 3:00pm - 9:00pm on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Guajardo Funeral Chapels with a Rosary beginning at 7:00pm.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery.
