Adolpho Montemayor, affectionately known as "Yogi Bear," passed away on December 19, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on December 23, 1944, in Lubbock County, Texas, Adolpho was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother who touched the lives of many with his unwavering spirit and kindness.
A dedicated technician, Adolpho served the City of Lubbock in Fleet Maintenance and made significant contributions during his tenure at A & M Automotive, Farmpac, and Montgomery Wards. His hard work ethic and reliability were hallmarks of his career, earning him a reputation as a good mechanic and a dependable worker.
Adolpho's laughter and quick wit were infectious, making him a beloved jokester among friends and family alike. He had a remarkable ability to find humor in everyday life and was known for his many jokes, bringing joy to those around him. Despite his self-proclaimed 3rd-grade education, his wisdom and insights transcended formal schooling, and he often remarked about the importance of caring for his family, which was one of his proudest accomplishments. He took great pride in his family lineage and often expressed how glad he was that they were well taken care of.
Throughout his life, Adolpho was not only a family man but also a supportive member of his community, frequently engaging in charity work for local churches. His interests were varied; he enjoyed watching the Texas Rangers, racing, poker, and fishing, and he loved sharing breakfast with friends at Aranda's.
Adolpho is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Beatrice Montemayor, and his three daughters:Vicki (Adam) Salinas, Amy (LaCarl) Montemayor-Prigg, and Dory Ann Trevino. He also leaves behind three sons: Adolpho Montemayor Jr., Eufracio Sendejo, and Isaac (Jen) Velasquez, along with seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, including one great-grandchild. Adolpho was preceded in death by his parents, Clemento Montemayor and Maria Vasquez, and a Daughter In Law, Rachael Montemayor, and is survived by two brothers, Joe (Michelle) Montemayor and Santos (Rita) Montemayor.
Adolpho Montemayor's life was characterized by strength, perseverance, and love, and he embodied the sentiment expressed in 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind, and his memory will be honored through the many lives he positively impacted.
