Gilbert V Hernandez

On Sunday October 20, 2019, Gilbert V. Hernandez 82 of Lubbock, Texas went home to be with our loving savior Jesus Christ. Gilbert was born on June 26, 1937 in Big Spring, Texas to David & Elisa Hernandez. Gilbert was in the Army from 1960-1962. Gilbert married Refugia “Cookie” Hernandez on April 27, 1963 and they were married for 57 years. He retired from Jackson Delinting after 40 plus years. He went back to work at Texas Tech University and after a few years he retired from there as well. Gilbert and his wife Cookie Hernandez were members of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, he also played guitar for years in the church choir. Those left to cherish his memory is his son Joel Hernandez and wife Verena, daughters Elisa Lopez and Paula Hernandez Narvais. Grandchildren Magenn Culver and husband Calvin, Jade Melton and husband Jason, Skyler Saenz an husband Raymundo, Nikki Hernandez, Joseph Buentello and Harley Buentello, great grandchildren Stella Culver and Bryce Melton. His brothers Raul Hernandez, David Hernandez, Joe Hernandez, Larry Hernandez his sisters Jovita Zamora, Carol Vasquez, Mary Lou Mora, Gloria Baca, Erlinda Rodriguez, Cecilia Sifuentes and Anita Pena. He is proceeded in death by his parents David & Elisa Hernandez, stepmom Eloisa Hernandez, wife Refugia “Cookie” Hernandez, aunt Gabriella “Lela” Hernandez, grandson Aaron Lopez and great granddaughters Nicki ‘Rae & Chantelle Saenz. Family and friends are invited to pray the rosary at 6pm on Wednesday October 30, 2019 at Guajardo Funeral Chapels. Services for Gilbert V. Hernandez will be at 10am Thursday October 31, 2019 with Father Jim McCartney at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Interment will be at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Guajardo Funeral Chapels.
